Judith is a research student at the Brighton Business School, University of Brighton. She completed her undergraduate studies in International Tourism Management at Leeds Beckett University in 2009 and continued studying tourism at the master’s level at Bremen University of Applied Sciences, Germany. In 2016, she was awarded a three-year Jade2Pro research fellowship from Jade University of Applied Sciences in Germany, which made it possible to start her PhD journey in Brighton.
Previously, Judith worked as a teaching fellow for Jade University and as a visiting lecturer at the University of Brighton. She has more than eight years of experience as an educator and enjoys teaching in international settings. Judith is a certified e-moderator and has extensive experience in constructing and delivering online courses. Her teaching expertise and research interests include international tourism management, tourism marketing, destination management, consumer behaviour, sustainable tourism, sustainability ethics, social media in tourism, and cruise tourism.
My research interests focus on the potential of social media for sustainability discourse in cruise tourism. How do cruise tourists negotiate the boundaries of sustainability regarding their holiday? Which emotions are involved in these discourses? How are these emotions managed? I explore these questions in my PhD project “Cruising with a Conscience: Navigating moral identity and the ethics of sustainability in the cruise community.”
I enjoy making education available for everyone. I know that there is no one size fits all approach to teaching, which is why I vary my teaching methods depending on course content and adjusting it to students’ needs. This includes lectures, workshops, seminars, flipped classroom and problem-based learning approaches. When I teach, my aim is to motivate students to dig deeper, find out more, and to challenge what they have read as well as their own assumptions.
