Profile Information

Public health is a multidisciplinary subject. It is both an art and a science, and is delivered through “the organised efforts of society”. We take a population perspective to identify and address the wider determinants of health. We explore what makes people well and healthy, as well as what causes poor health.
 
Our research at the University of Brighton focuses on multiple perspectives: from age-related conditions and long-term conditions, through to social, psychological, political and economic determinants of health. Health inequalities are a key focus of our research.
 
We welcome new staff and post-graduate researchers across interests including, for example, long-term conditions, nutrition, health policy, wealth inequality, sexual health, mental wellbeing, NHS and council services, sociology of health, public involvement, workplace health, child health and clinical guidelines. We aim to support participants with items such as discussions on methods, group reading, and joint research.
