Personal profile

Research interests

My research interests are in financial circumstances of students, student experiences, absenteeism, mindsets and resilience as well as intergenerational matters.

Supervisory Interests

I supervise policy focused, multidisciplinary research projects on topics about student experiences and student wellbeing including student transition, student retention, student financial circumstances, student support, international students and impact of Covid-19. I have experience in quantitative methodologies but appreciate a range of methodologies.

Approach to teaching

My teaching approach is multidisciplinary and I encourage student to apply their knowledge to real life situations where possible. Most of my teaching trains students in social science research methods, particularly quantitative research methods so that they have the tools and skills to carry out their own research. As dissertation supervisor, I enjoy being a mentor to encourage students reach their full potential in researching a topic of their own choosing and in their own personal development. Relating theory to practice, I also teach community engagement where student reflect on their volunteering roles and appreciate how they learn whilst making a difference to their local communities.
