Vis-able: using visual communication techniques to improve usability

Research output: Chapter in Book/Conference proceeding with ISSN or ISBNConference contribution with ISSN or ISBNpeer-review

Abstract

Previous research established a set of interaction design principles, aimed at creating usable but also enjoyable interfaces. Further work, outlined in this paper takes an exploratory look at potential techniques for realizing these aims. The study is intended to combine Aesthetic and Emotive approaches, commonly associated with Design disciplines, together with Scientific HCI and usability foundations. Students investigated two particular areas initially through project work on the MSc in Computer Games Graphics. A future aim of this research is to make an interactive gallery illustrating ideas that will be an educational tool to improve understanding and inspire students.
