Abstract

AIMS:
To inform appropriate resourcing of centres providing diagnostic services for children with possible ASD.
To determine the average professional time taken to assess a child for possible ASD in NHS run CDCs and tertiary centres across the UK, and the resulting financial cost to the NHS?

Primary Outcome:
What is the average professional time taken to assess a child for possible ASD,
and what is the resulting financial cost to the NHS?

METHOD: Each centre collect data on 20 “consecutive” children referred for ASD / social communication assessment
Research Ethics and Patient Consent Obtained
Retrospective from case notes (aim all centres) vs Prospective (5 centres,
feasibility, data not included)

For each child complete proforma:
➢Which professionals involved at each stage and for how long
➢Additional time spent gathering information eg school observation
➢Includes clinical admin and travel, and admin staff input
➢Diagnostic outcomes, investigation, referrals eg for support
