An investigation of shell model structure near ⁵⁶Ni

Abstract

Nuclei in the A ≃ 56 region are studied with the shell model. Excitation of particles from the f_7/2 shell is found to be dominated by a pair mode. In fact, such core excited states provide the most important components of the ⁵⁶Ni ground state.
