Steph was awarded her PhD, entitled ‘Physiological Characteristics of the Elite Adolescent Athlete’, from Loughborough University. Prior to this, she completed a BSc (First Class Honours) in Sports Science, and an MSc in Exercise Physiology, both also at Loughborough University. During this time, Steph gained extensive experience in sport science support through physiological testing of elite athletes for various National Governing Bodies of Sport, including the R.F.U., R.F.U.W., Great Britain and Ireland Rugby Football League, U.K. Athletics, and British Triathlon. Following this, she joined Queen Mary University of London to pursue her interest in Sports and Exercise Medicine where she went on to lead the MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine. There she gained a Post-Graduate Certificate of Academic Practice and was made fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Steph left to complete the pre-registration MSc in Physiotherapy at King’s College London (distinction). She currently splits her time between working in musculoskeletal outpatients and being research and audit lead for Sussex MSK Partnership, and also her academic role within the University of Brighton.
Whilst at Queen Mary University London, Steph was involved in research examining the interaction between clinical evidence and clinical reasoning and developing care pathways for a number of musculoskeletal conditions. She has research interests in sports and exercise medicine, health-related fitness and exercise prescription, and paediatric exercise science.
My research and supervisory interests include physical activity and fitness in children and young people, adult health-related fitness, musculoskeletal physiotherapy including the interaction between clinical evidence and clinical reasoning, and also the First Contact Practioner role within musculoskeletal physiotherapy practice.
