Transportation is one of the most important functions in meeting the daily needs of human beings and in establishing a global trade network. With the rapidly increasing world population and economic-technological developments, the increasing consumption habits make the functional role of transportation more important day by day. The increasing functional aspect of transportation requires effective and efficient use of modes of transportation with limited resources and the most affordable cost. Effective and efficient use of transportation modes can only be achieved with the physical and systemic integration of existing transportation systems. In this study; types of transportation are mentioned in general, and issues related to the integration of transportation modes and current approaches in this direction are discussed in a holistic way. In the study, not only the physical integration is focused on, but also the system-oriented integration process and the possible changes that will occur in the future in terms of transportation service are also mentioned. It was seen in the findings of the study that; Each mode of transport has several advantages and disadvantages over the others. These advantages and disadvantages may vary depending on the transportation infrastructure levels of the countries, whether there is a waterway connection and the factors limiting the use of different transportation modes such as geographical conditions. Although the systemic and physical integration of transportation modes have serious contributions to the transportation economy, the importance of the integration process is increasing with increasing technological developments. Along with technological developments, new concepts such as single window system, blockchain, physical internet take their place in the integration of transportation systems.
