The object/s of light in perception

Abstract

I have just completed a specific project that consolidates my artistic practice during the past six years. A commission from Plymouth Museum and City Art gallery for a work of Performance Art that intentionally focused on new and existing audiences for performance in the “city or civic gallery” setting –a key aim. The work encompassed the focus for criteria for both the gallery requirements, and the core funding body The Arts Council of England, within an extended and collective showing of art works in mixed media, circulating around the theme of light and New Light on works of art in the permanent collection of the gallery; specifically the Newlyn School of painting. However the remit for the Performance was to bring both the historical nature of the paintings to light as well as to bring a live activation through Performance of the approach to this task. In this sense the work involved elements of collaboration within the experience of both my own past practice and that of a collaborating artist whose work in earlier decades enabled a social dimension for performance in a public setting that was unprecedented, as indeed was the inclusion of a work of performance in the main stream setting of the PMCAG in 2012-13.
