Abstract

Presentation outline:
Vanessa will reflect upon the role of stitch within her practice, as a tool for socially engaged and participatory practice-based research, that enables innovative collaboration and dialogue. She is best known for her ongoing participatory arts project Women and Domesticity – What’s your Perspective? which invites participants to embroider their experiences onto a yellow duster (2014-date), and her Domestic Academic Quilt (2021), which explored the pressures on women academics with caring responsibilities during the Covid-19 lockdowns. Vanessa will reflect upon the experience of running these projects, the knowledge gained through sharing the research process with others, and how these experiences have opened up new and exciting possibilities for her research.
