Abstract

This essay is a short introduction to Interior Educators (IE). It is also a brief reflection on the present as well as the recent past of the subject of interior architecture/design, a deliberation that was prompted by the title of the conference – ‘Interior Futures: from which this book is the result. This essay also provides an opportunity to speculate upon changes that are taking place within this discipline and how IE could be integral to those transformations. Finally, this essay offers the proposition that there is a previously unseen confidence that is now evident within this subject both at a global level as well as in the UK. This is a growing cogency that, in parallel to its past, is also key to its future and is instigated by educators within this subject: a logic that informs and defines the key intentions of IE.
