Abstract

A 1000-word commissioned review of the 2018 photographic exhibition at the Barbican Gallery, Another Kind of Life: Photography at the Margins. The article explores the aims and contradictions of the show, which presented a range of camera studies of 'cultural outsiders'. The article is one of a series by Pollen for Source: The Photographic Review since 2012, covering photography in film and exhibition as well as in art and academic publications.
