Abstract
This paper seeks to explore the element of audience participation within Fashion design, from a residency artist’s point of view; it will lay out the experiences of the project, (developing a knitwear collection) of which many were unexpected. Ongoing interaction with the museum audience provided a more immediate response to the research and work produced, allowing different avenues of thought processes to be explored. The creative space developed a stage set atmosphere as the stream of visitors came to watch the spectacle of the designer at work. This somewhat artificial environment allowed for learning for both parties as the designer responded to audience comments through constant interaction. Design development and outcomes were often modified through audience participation, processes were brought into a new arena, in order to introduce skills and making quick design decisions were all unexpected positive effects of this innovative studio set up.
