Breaking Time: Sonic Fictions in Technology Temporality and Time - Modulating the Dividual Within the Control Society

Research output: Contribution to conferencePaperpeer-review

Abstract

The field of modulation we inhabit today hits the same as the futurist alien textures already being implemented in the dance floor experiments of dark side jungle in the early 1990’s. The so-called 'future-rhythm-machines' (Eshun 1999). Sensing and prefiguring the dissonant temporalities of the internet and the networking of experience that would engulf the modern subject over the coming decades, Rufige Kru, by using granular synthesis to unlock the relation between time and pitch, give us a foretaste: an inhuman education; a metal heads-up if you will, of the conditions of modulation and control to come.
