Personal profile

Research interests

I am a lecturer, focusing on photographic practice within the School of Art and Media. My research interests draw from my experience of growing up in Northern Ireland. As part of a Northern Irish diaspora, I am interested in the conflicting experiences of Northern Irish identity, history and culture.  Through an on-going reflection upon historical formative events and an engagement with current issues in the province, my work explores questions of identity, memory, conflict, and the symbolic landscape.  Of recent interest is how geo-political and cultural borders create dissonance and aid the formation of conflicting identity tribes.

I am a photographer with an active and growing artistic practice. My research outputs stem from my practice in the forms of artwork, exhibition, and publication. Conflicting imaging technologies play a role in my practice, as do the exhibition of works, installations and the material image.
