Scholarly biography

Marc Keech (PhD, PGCE, BA (Hons), SFHEA, FCIMSPA (Chartered)) is Principal Lecturer in the School of Education, Sport and Health Sciences, at the University of Brighton, specialising in Sport Policy, Development and Management, and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). In 2025, Marc was awarded Senior Manager Chartered Fellow status by CIMPSA, (the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity). Marc previously obtained a BA (Hons) in Sport and Recreation Studies (Staffordshire University), a PhD (Staffordshire University) which examined the contribution of international sport to the end of Apartheid in South Africa and a PGCE (Further and Higher Education - Manchester Metropolitan University). In 2012, he was awarded the University of Brighton Students Union prize for ‘Inspirational Lecturer of the Year’. Marc has acted as a consultant and researcher for a range of organisations. Marc developed the placement programme for the degree in Sport Management, which has received national recognition for its development of skills and knowledge for people working sport. During his time at the University of Brighton, Marc has held multiple leadership positions. Marc was an inaugural member of the national Higher Education (HE) working group of CIMPSA for HE courses from 2017. From 2018-2020, Marc was the national Higher Education representative on the CIMSPA Professional Development Board. From 2021, Marc has been a member of the CIMSPA Professional Development Committee for Community Sport and from 2024 a member of the CIMSPA Sport and Physical Activity Workforce Observatory Advisory Board.
