Research interests

As a senior lecturer specialising in Academic Literacies and English for Academic Purposes in the Brighton Student Skills Hub, I collaborate closely with the School of Business and Law in the discussions and practice of embedding skills sessions in core modules.  My responsibilities involve enhancing student engagement and success to positively impact on retention and progression. I focus on fostering academic skills such as critical communication, writing proficiency, and reflective practice. Through dialogic methods, I conduct lectures, seminars, writing groups, and individual tutorials tailored to students’ specific disciplinary contexts. My aim is to empower students, promote autonomy, and facilitate their academic journey.

My current research focuses on transition pedagogy, specifically examining student voice and strategies for fostering confident critical communication skills.
