My research spans a variety of topics that integrate finance, technology, and human/organizational behaviour. In that regard, I have an inter-disciplinary perspective covering digital transformation strategy, financial innovation, technology adoption and decision-making by incumbent financial services institutions, fintech companies as well as end-users.

My peer-reviewed publications focused on understanding of how new technologies (such as mobility, big data and AI) and regulations (such as GDPR, PSD2) are reshaping the financial services business models, and their impact on (i) firm performance, (ii) financial literacy, (iii) financial inclusion and (iv) technology adoption.

My research in progress focuses on Fintech particularly on ICOs as a means of entrepreneurial finance and impact of fintech on enhancing access to finance particularly for SMEs. I intend to expand my research portfolio in these areas as well as in productivity gains of open banking, which offers an open innovation context for banks to innovate with fintechs.

I would like to supervise students on Fintech, ICOs, and open banking/open finance. I am very interested in the productivity gains of open banking, new business models in fintech and empirically measuring the impact of fintech on sustainability (with respect to ESG), financial inclusion and access to finance for SMEs.  

I joined Brighton Business School recently as a Senior Lecturer in Finance. Previously, I have worked as a Professor of Finance at Bogazici University, where I have founded the Digital Finance Working Group that focuses on Fintech research, teaching and consultancy. I have received the prestigous Marie Curie Fellowship of the EU People Program in 2008 and worked as a Marie Curie Fellow at the Bayes (formerly Cass) Business School. I have published in leading finance journals such as Journal of Financial Services Research and International Review of Financial Analysis. I have supervised numerous MA and PhD theses in the areas of Fintech, corporate finance and banking with a focus on digital transformation.

I have 15+ years of teaching and research experience in finance and information systems. I have taught Corporate Finance, Financial Accounting and Investments at the undergraduate level and Fintech, Information Technology Investments and Electronic Finance Strategies at the graduate level. I have also delivered executive training on topics such as blockchain, credit scoring and corporate finance. I have a research-oriented and case-based blended teaching approach. I develop my own teaching material and complement it with state-of-the-art research findings, cases and where relevant with my own research output. I also invite guest speakers from the industry for students to engage with and develop their networks.
