AbstractPre-cooling of the thigh muscles is an ergogenic method that can alleviate systemic heat strain during intermittent sprint performance; nevertheless the physiological mechanisms that explain these benefits are not fully understood. This thesis aimed to evaluate the effects of upper leg cooling on the kinetics of heat exchange within the body and investigate how intermittent sprint exercise performance, that mimics the physiological demands of team sports, can be optimised, in a hot, humid environment (~ 30 °C, 50 % relative humidity).
