This investigation of health care professionalisation uses a case study method to further
knowledge on the topic. The subject of the case study is osteopathy in the United
Kingdom. Data analysis comprised a qualitative thematic approach, which was interpreted
from a sociological perspective, focussing on the developments that were central to a
professionalisation process. The primary event in the professionalisation of osteopathy in
the United Kingdom was the Osteopaths Act 1993.
