Abstract
Launched in 2024, Who Owns Brighton? (WOB) is a com¬munity led research project, hosted by Brighton & Hove Community Land Trust (BHCLT) in partnership with the Uni-versities of Brighton and Sussex, and funded by the Civic Power Fund and the University of Sussex.
Development is happening all over Brighton, but does what is being built meet the needs of the city and its citizens? Who decides? Who benefits? What kind of city is being built? And who is it for?
Who Owns Brighton? asks how development shapes the places and spaces where we live, love, work and play. The aim has been to develop a community led research meth-odology that gives people the knowledge, skills and tools to scrutinise the planning and development process and to engage and mobilise at different stages of that process.
