Abstract

This special issue supports the conference ‘Valuing individual and shared learning: the role of ICT’ held by the Working Group 3.5 Informatics in Elementary Education in June 2008 in Prague, Czech Republic. The Working Group is part of the Education Technical Committee of the International Federation of Information Processors (IFIP). The group is ambitious in its aims and scope, meeting in conferences and working groups. It is concerned with the role of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in elementary education (from pre-school to 13 years). Its mission is to provide educationalists with an international forum where ideas, practical educational experiences, research and project-oriented work can be presented and discussed in a professional way in order to promote the development of elementary education teaching and children's learning.
