Abstract
This chapter examines the profound deficiencies in the bequest of the ‘Respect’ Agenda by responding to Tony Blair’s (2006) own challenge in his speech to accompany the launch of the Respect Action Plan for a “genuine intellectual debate about the nature of liberty” to which few had responded. By examining the progressive erosion of young people’s rights under Tony Blair’s leadership this chapter concludes by arguing that it is only by addressing the social injustices facing young people will the possibility of respect be actualised, responsibility be enabled, and liberty be secured.
