The Floor Flag for Feeding Futures at Chapter Arts Centre Cardiff

Research output: Non-textual outputExhibition

Abstract

Feeding Futures Floor Flag is a textile-based artefact designed as a grounding and connective site for intergenerational dialogue, listening, and emotional engagement with infant feeding. Created by Sally Sutherland, the flag accompanies the Feeding Chair installation—a touring collaborative artwork exploring infant feeding, gender, and public space.

Installed at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff as part of a wider collaboration with The Birth Partner Project and Feed (In Certain Places, University of Central Lancashire), the floor flag offers a soft, inclusive space within the exhibition for visitors to pause, reflect, and encounter diverse experiences of care and feeding. It is intended to support embodied reflection and contribute to creating more welcoming, community-rooted public venues that acknowledge the needs of parents and carers.

The Feeding Chair installation features artwork by Jade de Montserrat alongside integrated audio-visual materials. The feeding chair incorporates an audio visual presentation by Sally Sutherland. It has been developed in collaboration with Textbook Studio, M3 Industries, and with support from Arts Council England.
