N2 - The manufacturing industry is moving toward rapid customization; this has an important effect on the nature of the fixtures that are used to clamp components. The research and application of reconfigurable pin fixture will become a necessity. Development of a reconfigurable pin fixture system is a complex procedure, as it involves many aspects of the system to be integrated: design, process planning, manufacturing, assembly etc. A thorough investigation of previous research into design of reconfigurable pin fixture is made in this paper. The review is comprised of five parts: pin cross-sectional shape, pin tips, pin density, pin actuation method and pin matrix clamping.
