Abstract
Golf is a sport that can be played year-round. At the recreational level, the only impediments outside of socioeconomic factors and injury on the ability to play all year are weather, course conditions, and physical fitness. From a strength and conditioning perspective, the planning process will involve an initial consultation with the player and coach to set training goals for the year. The rationale for compartmentalising the player’s year in this way is that it allows for the pursuit of either the overall goals of the plan, or to focus on the attainment of more precise, shorter-term targets and prioritise particular areas of their physical development. An additional reason for segregating training into specific foci could be to manipulate some of the training variables to allow for the pursuit of particular adaptations and to the limit interference with technical training.
