Abstract
Mary Gearey explores how ‘nature based solutions’ (NBS) can support cities in tackling a wide range of contemporary urban challenges. Using Barcelona as a case study, Mary focuses on two city scale interventions which utilise NBS approaches. The first, superblocks, reclaim the streets as sites of civic conviviality. The second, arboreal avenues, cool, connect and renature diverse city neighbourhoods.
