Museum Exhibition Design: Histories and Futures

Research output: Other contribution

Abstract

Developed with support by the Centre for Design History at the University of Brighton, this website is the permanent output of a major international conference held in September 2020 that hosted scholars from all disciplines and career stages to consider museum exhibition design practice and exhibition making from a range of perspectives. It includes recordings of over 40 research papers on temporary and permanent display practices in museums, from the eighteenth century to the recent past, with reflective commentary from exhibition makers practising today. It provides resources to support those teaching Museum Exhibition Design Histories and a recording of a plenary roundtable which summarises the key themes of the conference. The website reframes understandings of museums and their genealogy, as well as to enters into a dialogue with museums and exhibition makers as they plan for the future.
