    Abstract

In this paper simulation and performance studies are presented for an integrated access network system employing combination of ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line), ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) and IP (Internet Protocol), to overcome the limitations of DSL technology and provide the required Quality of Service (QoS). The simulations are developed using a commercial network modelling and simulation tool named COMNET III. The paper describes an effective way of representing ADSL in the simulation environment as well as its integration with the other two technologies. It is also shown that the integration of IP over ATM over ADSL provide the QoS needed for the real time multimedia applications studied in this paper.
