Mentorship, the struggling midwife and the importance of Continuity

Research output: Contribution to journalArticle

Abstract

The concerns experienced by midwives supporting struggling student midwives are varied and can range from a lack of preparation for the mentorship role to a fear of having to fail a student. Furthermore student midwives can slip through the net and may even qualify without the necessary clinical or professional standards being met. This article explores how continuity, a central concept of midwifery care, is also key to successful mentorship.
