Abstract

Drawing on justice theory, previous research on low-income consumers, and transformative service research this study explores empirically how low-income consumers cope with marketplace discrimination and what are the consequences of their coping strategies. The participants experienced discrimination in allocation of resources, procedures, and interactions in various basic services settings. They tackled the marketplace discrimination through various proactive, reactive,
and passive strategies which resulted into diTerent positive and negative consequences.
