Abstract
This online essay was commissioned by the Royal Pavilion and Museums, Brighton and Hove to provide an sample of research conducted into the museum's collections as part of the Rules of Attraction funded project, which ran from 2007-2008. The research resulted from a six-month appointment as one of six Researcher/Interpreters. The focus for this piece was on the museum's collection of insulting Victorian valentine cards, which also formed part of the 2007-8 exhibition in Brighton Museum and Art Gallery, entitled 'On the Pull'. The essay now forms part of the museum's 'Discover' website.
