Abstract
The third of three documentary films on the large scale textile artwork Keiskamma Guernica (2010) made by the Keiskamma Art Project in the poorest region of South Africa the Eastern Cape. The shapes you see in the Keiskamma Guernica are the lives and experiences of the people involved in its creation. A form of empowered creative practice develops through the transformation of these painful and traumatic experiences into a collective remaking of Picasso’s Guernica. This remaking simultaneously expresses grief, anger and hope.
