Abstract

This short essay was originally prepared as a talk to be presented in the public programme to accompany the exhibition, John Heartfield. Fotografie plus Dynamit at the Akademie der Künste, Berlin in June 2020, (cancelled because of Covid-19 restrictions). It considers how graphic designers and political artists in Britain, from the Second War onwards, engaged with the work of Heartfield in their works. It discusses the graphic strategies of Abram Games, FHK Henrion, Peter Kennard and David King.
