Abstract

In the paper which introduced this volume we examined the motivations at the outset of EPOCH, including the major areas in which EPOCH has sought to develop integrated systems. We furthermore analysed the rate of progress in the related field of Computer aided Architectural Design over the last 40 years or so, in order to get a feel for a comparator as usrrogate benchmark and to examine the influence that addressing the research needs for CAAD applications had had on basic research in underlying computational research.
