Abstract

Architecture professes to be instrumental in supporting our lives. This well-meaning support can become prescriptive, however. Making drawing instruments to discuss an indeterminate condition in architecture has as similar risk, where the instrumentality might close avenues of uncertainty. This chapter discusses the practical and theoretical issues of the construction of such instruments and how their various manufacturing techniques, mostly involving digital fabrication, can influence the production and operation of the instruments.
