Abstract

This special double edition of Kybernetes, guest edited by Ranulph Glanville and Ben Sweeting, comprises papers from the 2010 Conference of the American Society for Cybernetics 'Cybernetics: Art, Design, Mathematics - A Meta-Disciplinary Conversation' held at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY, USA. The conference featured cyberneticians, artists, musicians, architects, designers and mathematicians and explored and developed connections between these different fields through structured discussions and the open exchange of ideas. Two themes focused the discussions and papers: (1) the relation between abstract and actual and (2) cross over processes/ trans-, intra-, meta-.
