Abstract
The present invention provides contact lenses comprising osmoprotectant agent-functionalised hydroxyl-group bearing polymers containing an osmoprotectant agent attached to the polymer backbone, for example via an ester linkage, that can slowly release the free osmoprotectant during wear. Thus, the present invention provides a means for the controlled and sustained release of osmoprotectant agents from contact lenses and thus has potential as an effective long-term solution for the treatment and prevention of ocular discomfort and disease in contact lens wearers.
