Power and servility. An experiment in the ethics of security and counter-security

The aim of this chapter is to begin an experiment with th e ethics of security. In asking whether it is possible to have a ‘ good ’ security, we encounter an ethical issue in two senses: first, in considering the possibility of goodness, whatever that may be, in the techniques of security and, second, a way of cond ucting the self in the face of the indubitable and apparently increasing power of security apparatuses. We are more interested in the second aspect because we want to look more closely at the ethical side of the power relations of security.
