Abstract

Developing countries are in utter need to improve affordability of safe structural components, such as bracings, columns, girders and secondary elements. Detailing solutions of the respective joints are crucial for safety and total cost. Much can be learnt from results of product development of the past 40 years done by leading construction enterprises in Germany. Their product development was and is based on intensive research and experiments of scientists at German universities, to mention Klöppel, Roik or Kindmann. Distinctly different conditions in developing countries, such as available steel quality or competence, strongly ask for adaptation of these highly advanced German solutions. This adaptation has to be worked out with due diligence and competence to find new, innovative solutions fitting to every aspect. This requires the same scientific, reliable methodology as used in Germany in order to convince national code institutes and investors to accept innovative designs. Research in this thesis considers detailing of steel structures evaluated against solutions as regularly used in Iran today.
