    Research output: Contribution to conferenceAbstract

    Abstract

This presentation focuses on the importance and value of research skills in leading learning for professional peers and students in education settings. I share my own story of being a mathematics consultant in England at a time of unprecedented national intervention and investment in education. This experience had a profound impact on my own values, beliefs and learning. It led me to become a practitioner-researcher who uses action research approaches. Moreover, it was the catalyst for me to develop into an educator for whom using and engaging in research are a necessary aspects of professional learning. I conclude by examining the shared characteristics of action research, educational research and professional learning and reflecting on how the synthesis of research and professional learning can be empowering and transformative.
