Abstract
A modified version of the adaptive moment inversion algorithm is suggested for the quadrature method of moments and conditional quadrature method of moments (QMOM, CQMOM), based on a new criterion for selection of the number of nodes in the quadrature approximation of the particle velocity distribution function (VDF) for the solution of the moment advection equations. In contrast to the conventional QMOM and CQMOM, the new approach guarantees that unphysical values of particle velocities are not predicted. It is shown that the number of nodes in the approximation of the VDF should be sufficiently high to predict physically meaningful results when modelling intersections of particle clouds.
