Abstract
A322 Approach to M3 Junction 3 near Lightwater, Surrey, 2003/2026 is a colour photograph on paper. The image was exposed in camera on location in November 2003 and printed in the colour darkroom at the University of Brighton, School of Art and Media Photography Technical Resource in March 2026. The picture was made initially during a project that involved photographing motorways at night 2000-2004. The project featured views located very nearby along the M3 from two bridges forming part of the roundabout at the junction. The print is mounted and framed for inclusion in a group exhibition accompanying Darkness: A Photography Conference, held at Manchester Metropolitan University School of Digital Arts, 19-20 March 2026. Darkness can be imagined with what is hidden by the structure of the picture as much as it can be seen as a condition of its making in place, camera and darkroom.
