Research output: Other contribution › peer-review

Abstract

This evaluation of Brighton and Hove Council's approach to climate change mitigation and adaptation examines the evidence base informing its local plan.
The paper assesses Brighton and Hove’s key climate risks, analysing the extent to which the city plan gives sufficient weight to these risks, highlighting examples of coastal management schemes, and land allocation and planning decisions. It finds that Brighton and Hove Council's planning approach, while comparatively ambitious, insufficient to mitigate and adapt to climate risks at the scale required, with development pressure, outdated evidence and the absence of enforceable adaptation requirements limiting effectiveness.
