Project Details

Description

HYDRATE will develop advanced Hydrogen-fuelled split cycle engines for off highway applications such as for the construction and mining industries. The split cycle engine is a clean, highly efficient internal combustion engine that competes directly with fuel cells in efficiency and utility. The concept is very well suited to applications requiring high power output and long operating periods between refuelling/re-charging. These applications also need a rugged, durable propulsion system which tends to favour mechanical technologies over electro-chemical technologies such as fuel cells and batteries.
