Assessment of Learning technologies and Frameworks for Intelligent and Ethical AI (ALFIE)

Project Details

Description

Led by Catalink Limited, with partners from six European countries, ALFIE is a groundbreaking project designed to shape the future of artificial intelligence.

ALFIE combines a collaborative space for discussion (the EthiTech Dialogue Hub) with a cutting-edge tool that translates policy recommendations into actionable goals for AI models (The AutoML Platform).

This development aims to bridge the gap between ethical considerations and cutting-edge AI technologies. ensuring alignment with real-world needs and expectations and making ALFIE a cornerstone of trustworthy and accessible AI.

The ALFIE project aims to:
> Automate tasks: Streamlining processes and reduce human error.
> Improve decision-making: Providing data-driven insights for better outcomes.
> Enhance efficiency: Optimising operations and resource allocation.
> Create new products and services: Developing innovative solutions.

It will create an ecosystem that combines advanced AI technology with ethical standards, ensuring that the resulting AI systems are not only high-performing but also fair, transparent, and free from bias.

The project focuses on building these two key components:

The EthiTech Dialogue Hub is a multidisciplinary platform enabling dialogue among citizens, policymakers, AI developers, and legal experts. It focuses on formulating policy recommendations and fostering collaboration on ethical AI practices.

The AutoML Platform is a user-friendly, natural language-driven system that automates the creation of AI models. It ensures compliance with ethical and legal guidelines while making AI development accessible to non-experts.
The intuitive interface makes AI accessible to everyone. Users can simply describe their data, desired outcomes, and constraints using natural language, and the platform will handle the complex tasks of model selection and deployment.

These components form a bi-directional feedback system where insights from ETD-Hub refine AI models on the AutoML platform, and implementation results feed back into ethical and regulatory discussions.

The ALFIE project will thus:
> strengthen EU capacity on the implications that AI has in modern lifestyle through skill enhancement, policy development and network efficacy
> conduct comprehensive analyses of existing AI deployment in Europe to highlight their impacts, capabilities and limitations through the lens of policies and regulations
> enhance policies and suggest best practices focused on promoting ethical AI
> develop ethical, trustworthy and compliant AI models tailored on people needs
To design an accessible, trustworthy, and democratised AI platform
> elevate public awareness regarding AI.

Ultimately, ALFIE aims to understand AI’s Impact by assessing the real-world benefits and limitations of current AI deployments in Europe and analysing how these deployments align with ethical principles for trustworthy AI.

It will enhance our ability to anticipate and address the long-term opportunities and challenges of AI and related technologies.

It will also provide evidence-based recommendations for European policies on research, innovation, and other key areas, ensuring Europe can harness AI’s potential while mitigating risks, aligning with human rights and European values, and strengthening Europe’s capacity to guide AI development and deployment in a responsible manner.
