Scholarly biography

Primary School Teaching Experience

I am a qualified primary school teacher with experience in EYFS, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2. I have held subject leadership roles in computing, science, and RE.   I have extensive mentoring experience, supporting BA and PGCE trainee teachers during the school-based training element of their course. I have delivered courses and interventions on planning and assessment, curriculum development, and classroom management.

Education and Research

I have a Bachelor of Science with Honours degree in Computing from the University of Brighton.   My dissertation centred on the usability of e-commerce websites.  After graduating, I pursued a career in digital marketing and design, where my research provided valuable insights.

While working toward my Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Education, I conducted a small-scale action research study.  This research investigated the use of talk in a mathematics-based problem-solving activity with children who have English as an Additional Language (EAL).  The outcomes identified the critical link between talk and effective collaboration.  These findings shaped my teaching approach as an early career teacher.

In 2019, I completed an MA in Education at the University of Brighton. As a computing graduate, I wanted to explore how technology could be used in the classroom to support children's learning.  I designed and implemented a gamified mathematics intervention, focusing on the use of feedback.  The study developed my understanding of educational technology's strengths and limitations and revealed various avenues for further research. This prompted me to pursue a PhD in Education at the University of Brighton, focusing on digital technologies in primary science education.
