Personal profile

Research interests

Stewart’s primary research interest is child health, with a particular interest in the manifestation and impact of musculoskeletal foot and ankle problems in children.  Stewart is currently co-leading a funded, five year research programme (Great Foundations) which is looking to advance understanding about the development of children’s feet in infancy and early childhood. Stewart combines vast clinical, research and academic interests in this area and has experience of employing various health technologies to pursue advances in the understanding and clinical management of foot and ankle problems in children.  He was recently awarded a BACD-Castang Fellowship related to his work exploring foot and ankle problems in children with disabilities.

Stewart also has interests in human movement and is involved in work looking at the impact of running footwear on foot and lower limb biomechanics. He was also involved in a multi-centre study looking at the role of foot and ankle impairments as predictors of mobility and balance problems in stroke survivors.
