Stephen Mackie

Stephen studied for a BA in Architecture [RIBA Part 1] at the University of Dundee between 2004 and 2007. After completing his BA he moved to London to carry out a year's professional practice experience at Sheppard Robson Architects [9 months] and NEU Architects [3 months]. He returned to Dundee to carry out his Masters in Architecture [RIBA Part 2] which he completed in 2010.

Stephen studied his Professional Practice in Architecture [RIBA Part 3] at the University of Westminster and Graduated in 2013. While carrying out his Part 3, Stephen returned to NEU Architects to gain further professional practice experience.

Stephen set up Sean & Stephen Ltd, an architecture practice, with his then business partner Sean McAlister in May 2013. The practice worked on a variety of public and private projects on a wide variety of scales. In 2019 Stephen set up a construction company with Sean called Pencil and Brick Ltd. This company was created to build the projects that the architecture practice designed. Within this company, Stephen delivered a number of successful construction projects. Stephen left both companies in March 2022.

Stephen has been a visiting lecturer in architecture at a number of institutions including University of Westminster, Brighton, Hertfordshire, Bournemouth and Greenwich.

In 2016 Stephen began teaching on the Interior Architecture Course at the University of Brighton. He co-ran a design studio for Levels 5 and 6 predominantly teaching on design and technology modules.

In 2021 Stephen moved to teaching on the Integrated Foundation Year in Architecture, Interior Architecture and Product Design Course. Since working on the course, Stephen has become an integral part of the teaching staff to deliver the course.
