Personal profile

Research interests

My research focuses on social and eco-justice issues such as corporate social and environmental reporting, human rights and modern slavery accounting, climate change, corporate governance and accountability including counter accounting. I am particularly interested in research contexts which reflect the global south (developing countries) and how subaltern (less powerful or voiceless) members can be given agency in corporate-community organising. Thus, the gap that exist between the global south and global north in terms of corporate-community relations is revealed. With this approach, I make contributions to theory/literature which has genuine implications for policy and practice. Also, this reveals lessons which the global north and policy makers can learn from the global south and vice versa.

Further, I focus on counter accounting and corporate social and environmental disclosures. For example, I analyse corporate disclosures and the experiences of community members, regulators and non-governmental organisations. I then triangulate these views to enable me determine the transparency of corporate claims. Thus, it becomes clear when corporate greenwashing of disclosures has taken place.

In the coming years, I aim to conduct and articulate original research that is globally relevant with clear organisational and policy implications, as well as valid theoretical and empirical contributions to knowledge.
